Panel-Ready Appliances: Brands, Installation & Considerations
Panel-ready appliances are built to disappear — covered with a custom panel that matches your cabinetry instead of showing off stainless steel. They're a defining feature of a lot of high-end kitchens, but they come with real tradeoffs worth understanding before you commit.

Which Appliances Come Panel-Ready
Refrigeration leads the category. Full-size refrigerators, freezers, undercounter units, refrigerator drawers, beverage centers, and wine fridges are the most common panel-ready appliances in a kitchen.
Dishwashers are the easiest fit. Panel-ready dishwashers are widely available and generally the simplest panel-ready appliance to install, replace, and live with.
A few others round out the list. Ice makers, warming drawers, trash compactors, and ceiling-mount range hoods can also be ordered panel-ready. Ovens, notably, cannot be paneled.

Popular Brands
Sub-Zero is one of the most recognized names in panel-ready refrigeration, including fully integrated models designed to sit flush with cabinetry.
Thermador offers panel-ready refrigeration, including larger-format models built for custom panels.
KitchenAid makes panel-ready dishwashers, a more accessible entry point into the paneled look.

What Installation Involves
The panel is a separate purchase. Panel-ready appliances ship without the decorative panel or handles — those are custom-made to match your cabinetry through a cabinet dealer or hardware supplier.
The opening has to be precise. The appliance needs to sit flush with surrounding cabinetry, which means the floor needs to be level and the cutout cut to exact specifications.
Experience matters. Because the margin for error is small, it's worth using an installer who has specifically worked with panel-ready units before.

Considerations
The long-term consideration is replacement, especially for refrigerators. If a model is discontinued or a replacement has different dimensions, the old panel may not fit, and a newly made panel may not match cabinetry that's aged 15 to 25 years.
Dishwashers are far easier to replace than refrigerators, which is worth keeping in mind when deciding where to invest in the paneled look.
Panel-ready appliances can be one of the most elegant details in a kitchen renovation when they're planned for properly from the start. If you're weighing panel-ready options for your kitchen we can walk you through your options.
